Sometimes, it’s the small, unexpected moments that stay with us most after a challenging time.

At the end of her two-month treatment at MedAustron, a young patient from Croatia received a very special surprise: a life-sized Mickey Mouse came to visit her. Throughout her therapy, a small Mickey Mouse plush toy had been her faithful companion, providing comfort, familiarity, and a little piece of home.

Her joy was all the greater when the “real” Mickey Mouse suddenly appeared before her. The surprise, organised by MedAustron’s Patient Care Team, was a great success. The young patient played, laughed, and enjoyed carefree moments filled with joy and lightheartedness. Her mother was also visibly moved and warmly embraced Mickey Mouse. After many challenging weeks, this visit was a particularly beautiful and emotional conclusion to their journey together.

This special initiative was made possible by the Friends of Particle Therapy Association. It once again demonstrates how important small gestures can be in bringing hope, confidence, and a smile to children and their families during difficult times.

With this unforgettable visit, a young patient was able not only to complete her treatment, but also to take home a memory that will stay with her a long time.
